Freedom

As of today, we have paid off all our credit card debt. I won't go into details, but grad school is expensive, even with student loans, a stipend, and extra work. (Oh, and trying to do that with a family is even more expensive.)

We made some poor financial decisions at the beginning of our stay in Nashville, and consequently carried some consumer credit debt throughout.

Now we can start saving for that down payment on a house. I love having a salary.

That's great. Of course, when you do buy a house, that mortgage debt will be even more frightening.

Good show sir! We're almost done paying my wife's student loans and though we are still very much in the man's shackles (with my student loan debt) it is exciting.

Yeah, those student loans are a spectre that will be haunting us both for years to come. Luckily, the PhD and a strong job placement make it all worth it.

Speaking of spectres, yours still wanders the halls of the JFSB and JKB occasionally.

Every business has overhead, even the PhD business. Student loans are overhead--that will go away.

That must be marvelous. We're hoping that our house tax break will free us of the debt we incurred getting JC all green carded. Perhaps the end is in sight!
